Two-time world champion Ulvi Ganizade to undergo knee surgery after injury in Astana

Azerbaijan's two-time world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, Ulvi Ganizade, will undergo surgery after suffering a knee injury at the World Wrestling Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.

As reported by İdman.Biz, citing AZERTAC, the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation confirmed that the 72 kg wrestler requires surgery on his right knee.

Ganizade is currently in Astana and will return to Baku together with the Azerbaijani national team.

The two-time world champion began his campaign with a 9-4 victory over Japan's Rintaro Sogabe in the round of 16.

However, he suffered a right knee injury during his quarterfinal bout against Russia's Mingiyan Goryayev and was unable to complete the contest. The match ended in a 7-6 defeat for the Azerbaijani wrestler.

The injury brought Ganizade's participation in the World Championships to a premature end.
