The opening round of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase has been completed.
İdman.Biz reports that the first round delivered several emphatic wins, successful starts for many of the favourites and impressive performances from tournament newcomers.
The biggest victory of the round belonged to reigning champions PSG, who thrashed Slovan Bratislava 6-1. Ferran Torres scored a hat-trick for the Paris side. Barcelona also made a powerful start to their campaign, putting five goals past Feyenoord in a 5-1 victory.
Bayern Munich were held goalless in the first half before scoring five times against Bodo/Glimt, while one of the biggest surprises came from Champions League debutants Como. Cesc Fabregas' side produced an impressive home performance to beat Leipzig 4-1.
Several other European heavyweights also opened their campaigns with victories. Real Madrid defeated Inter 2-1 in the Spanish capital, while Manchester City won 2-0 away to Porto thanks to a brace from Erling Haaland. Arsenal edged Napoli 1-0 in Italy, and Liverpool came from behind to beat Atletico Madrid 2-1.
Azerbaijan's Sabah, making their first appearance at this stage of the Champions League, began their league-phase campaign at Old Trafford. The Baku club suffered a 4-0 defeat to Manchester United.
With the score at 1-0, Joy-Lance Mickels had a good opportunity to bring Sabah level, but the hosts soon struck twice more and effectively settled the outcome of the match before half-time. Despite the defeat, the fixture was a historic one for Sabah, who became the latest Azerbaijani club to compete on European football's biggest club stage.
The most dramatic finish of the round came in Prague. Slavia, despite playing with 10 men, were leading Lens 2-1 after 90 minutes, but the French side scored twice in stoppage time to complete a remarkable 3-2 comeback.
