Women's volleyball club Turan have continued to strengthen their squad ahead of the CEV Champions League with another high-profile signing, securing the services of Cuban opposite hitter Ana Cleger.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the 35-year-old, who previously played for Azerbaijani club Rabitə, shared her thoughts on returning to the country after completing her move from Turkish side Bolu Belediyespor.
"It's great to be back in Azerbaijan. I was delighted to accept the invitation from Turan, a club that has become one of the new forces in the national championship. I can't wait to experience the atmosphere of the Champions League again. This is a new chapter in my career and an opportunity to continue developing in a strong league. The level of the Azerbaijani Super League has risen significantly in recent years. I know the club has big ambitions and serious goals, and I want to help the team achieve success."
Cleger added that it was important for her to join a project where she could use her experience while competing for major honours.
"Turan showed great interest in me, and I felt the confidence of both the club's management and coaching staff. I'm looking forward to starting work with the team, meeting my new teammates and getting to know the fans. Together, we can achieve a lot."
The Cuban international has long been regarded as one of the world's most dangerous attackers, known for her powerful serve, aggressive play at the net and ability to take responsibility in decisive moments. Her arrival is expected to add both leadership and depth to Turan's title-winning squad.
Cleger is also set to reunite with fellow Cuban Wilma Salas, forming what could become one of the strongest attacking duos in the Azerbaijani league. During the summer, Turan have also signed Japanese libero Minami Yoshioka, South Korean outside hitter Jae Young Lee, Chinese middle blocker Hanyu Yang, Slovak setter Barbora Koseková, Serbian opposite Marta Drpa, and Azerbaijan international Mariya Kirilyuk as the club continues to build a squad capable of competing on both the domestic and European stages.
