Defending 200m freestyle world champion Siobhan Haughey has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming World Aquatics Championships in Singapore due to a persistent back injury.
Idman.biz, citing Reuters, reports that the 27-year-old made history in 2024 by becoming Hong Kong’s first-ever swimming world champion with her victory in Doha. She is also a four-time Olympic medallist and one of Asia’s most celebrated swimmers.
“I have pulled out of the world championships in Singapore due to an ongoing back injury,” Haughey shared on social media on Monday.
Her absence will be a major blow to Hong Kong’s medal hopes, but the focus now shifts to her recovery and preparation for future competitions.
