The Azerbaijani Army launched counter-offensive operations along the frontline on September 27, 2020, following military clashes between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The fighting lasted 44 days and ended on November 10, 2020.
Under an order signed by President Ilham Aliyev on December 2, 2020, September 27 was established as Remembrance Day in Azerbaijan. The date is observed annually in tribute to the soldiers and officers who fought in the war and those who lost their lives for the country's territorial integrity.
The 2020 war resulted in Azerbaijan regaining control over territories that had been outside its control for nearly three decades. In the years since the conflict, extensive reconstruction and infrastructure projects have been carried out in the territories returned to Azerbaijani control, alongside the resettlement of residents.
On Remembrance Day, Azerbaijan pays tribute to the memory of all those who lost their lives in the war.
