“If the Azerbaijan national team wants to secure a comfortable victory over Liechtenstein, they must score in the opening minutes of the match,” former Azerbaijan and Sabah head coach Arif Asadov said.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the 56-year-old specialist shared his expectations ahead of today’s UEFA Nations League group-stage encounter.
“Liechtenstein are one of the opponents we would have wanted to face. We are significantly superior to them both in terms of individual players and as a team. That is why winning this match is extremely important. Victory would also be crucial in terms of moving to the top of the group standings,” Asadov told Report.az.
According to him, Azerbaijan need to break the deadlock as early as possible to avoid complications later in the match.
“Our national team absolutely needs a victory today. If we want to achieve this goal comfortably, we must score in the opening minutes. If that happens, it will be easier to break down their compact defensive line. But as time passes, certain difficulties could arise for us,” he added.
Asadov also suggested that head coach Ayhan Abbasov could make several changes to the starting line-up.
“There could be some changes in the team. I believe the national side will win today. We need to secure a comfortable victory and then prepare for the next match against Lithuania,” he said.
The League D Group 2 match between Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein will kick off at 20:00 at the Tofig Bahramov Republican Stadium in Baku.
