Tofiq Musayev overtakes Rafael Fiziev in UFC lightweight rankings

Azerbaijani mixed martial artist Tofiq Musayev has moved ahead of compatriot Rafael Fiziev in the UFC lightweight rankings.

As reported by İdman.Biz, Musayev has retained 13th place in the updated Meta UFC Rankings, while Fiziev has dropped two positions, from 12th to 14th. As a result, Musayev has moved above his fellow Azerbaijani for the first time in this ranking system.

The Meta UFC Rankings are a new official ranking system introduced by the UFC in partnership with Meta in June 2026.

Unlike the traditional rankings, which are determined through voting by a panel of sports media representatives, the new system uses an algorithm to calculate fighters' positions based on several factors, including fight results, the quality of opponents, methods of victory, activity levels and the time elapsed since their most recent bouts.

However, the traditional UFC Media Panel rankings, which remain available on the promotion's official website, present a different picture.

Fiziev currently occupies 11th place in the lightweight division, while Musayev is not among the top 15 fighters.

Both ranking systems are headed by UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, with Ilia Topuria occupying the number one contender position.

Musayev last competed on August 1 at a UFC event in Belgrade, where he defeated Slovakia's Ludovit Klein by technical knockout in the second round.

Fiziev, meanwhile, made his most recent appearance on June 27 in Baku, knocking out Mexico's Manuel Torres just 15 seconds into the second round.

Neither Azerbaijani fighter has had his next UFC bout officially announced.
