This is our national team!
Tonight at 20:00, Azerbaijan and Hungary’s national teams will face off in a friendly match at Liv Bona Dea Arena.
17 players from the Hungarian squad are playing abroad. Half of them appeared last season in Europe’s “Big Five” leagues — the English Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, and La Liga:
Balázs Tóth (Blackburn)
Willi Orbán (Leipzig)
Botond Balogh (Parma)
Márton Dárdai (Hertha)
Attila Mocsi (Rizespor)
Bendegúz Bolla (Rapid)
Áron Csongvai (AIK)
Bence Dárdai (Wolfsburg)
Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth)
Loïc Négo (Le Havre)
Tamás Nikitscher (Valladolid)
András Schäfer (Union Berlin)
Callum Styles (West Bromwich)
Kevin Csoboth (St. Gallen)
Dániel Gazdag (Columbus)
Roland Sallai (Galatasaray)
Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool)
According to Transfermarkt, the total market value of the Azerbaijani squad is €18 million, while the Hungarian team’s value is just under €195 million.
Azerbaijan and Hungary have faced each other 7 times so far. We’ve lost all of those matches, conceding 19 goals and scoring just 2. The first goal was scored by Vyacheslav Lychkin, and the most recent by Mahir Emreli.
Despite Hungary's overwhelming advantage, bookmakers give the following odds: Azerbaijan win – 4.50, Draw – 3.40, Hungary win – 1.70.
This means the bookmakers aren’t 100% certain of our defeat.
Even though the Hungarian players are valued ten times more than ours, and the statistics aren’t in our favor, we must believe in our national team, always support them, and hope for success.
Because this is our national team!
There are talented young players in the current squad.
Compared to previous years, we barely have any players abroad.
Except for Shahriyar Mammadaliyev, Badavi Huseynov, Renat Dadashov, Anatoliy Nuriyev, and Mert Celik — all of whom are not in the main lineup — there are virtually no foreign-based players.
Shahriyar and Badavi have long become one of our own and perhaps are the most passionate players in the team.
Yes, this is our national team!
And the players must honor that jersey!
True, they are overall weaker than the Hungarians. Just Dominik Szoboszlai alone is worth around five times the total value of our entire squad, and Milos Kerkez is worth twice as much. But at the very least, they must fight until the final whistle and give it their all.
Wishing our national team the best of luck!
