FIFA Referees Committee chairman Pierluigi Collina has praised the organisation of the U15 World Cup and Festival in Baku, describing the participation of 189 teams as an unforgettable experience for young footballers.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing Report, the legendary Italian former referee expressed his admiration for the facilities and conditions provided for the international tournament in Azerbaijan's capital.
"It's wonderful to see young footballers from all over the world coming together here and gaining experience. Many of them are travelling abroad for the first time. For some, this will be one of the most unforgettable experiences of their lives," Collina said.
He was particularly impressed by the rapid development of the tournament's infrastructure.
"Three months ago, there was nothing in this area, and now such a modern sports complex is operating here," he added.
Collina also highlighted the important contribution of Azerbaijani referees, who have been working throughout the competition to ensure that matches are conducted fairly.
"Without their efforts, this tournament would not have been possible. The referees are working with great responsibility, officiating two or three matches a day. I would like to thank the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan and the local referees for their support," he stated.
The former FIFA referee, widely regarded as one of the most respected officials in football history, also reflected on his previous visits to Azerbaijan.
"I have visited Baku many times. Every time I come here, I notice positive changes. Everything in Baku is changing for the better," Collina concluded.
The U15 World Cup and Festival has brought together young footballers from across the globe, providing an opportunity to gain international experience, compete against teams from different footballing cultures and develop their skills.
The large-scale event also represents an important organisational undertaking for Azerbaijan, with hundreds of teams and numerous match officials involved in the competition.
