Legendary Japanese striker Kazuyoshi Miura is close to joining J.League third-division club Fukushima United and is preparing to begin his 41st season in professional football.
According to Idman.Biz, citing The Japan Times, the 58-year-old forward will join his new team on a one-year loan deal. Last season, Miura played for fourth-division side Atletico Suzuka.
An official announcement of the transfer is expected in the near future. It is noted that Miura’s recent moves have traditionally been announced on January 11 at 11:11, a symbolic reference to his iconic squad number.
During the previous season, Miura made seven appearances, while his team was relegated to the regional leagues at the end of the campaign. The veteran forward will turn 59 in February.
Kazuyoshi Miura made his professional debut in 1986 with Brazilian club Santos and later played in Italy, Croatia, Australia, and Portugal. He became one of the key figures in popularizing football in Japan following the launch of the J.League in 1993. Miura scored 55 goals in 89 appearances for the Japan national team.
