For the first time in history, “Qarabag” has avoided defeat in a European match against an English club.
According to Idman.Biz, on November 5, Gurban Gurbanov’s team played to a 2–2 draw with “Chelsea” in Baku in the fourth round of the UEFA Champions League group stage.
This game marked the Azerbaijani champions’ first unbeaten result in European competitions against English opposition. “Qarabag” had previously faced English clubs seven times, losing all those matches with a combined goal difference of 1–21.
The Agdam club first met “Chelsea” during their Champions League group stage debut in the 2017/18 season, losing 0–6 away and 0–4 at home.
Additionally, “Qarabag” faced “Tottenham Hotspur” three times in the Europa League group stage. In the 2015/16 season, they lost 1–3 away and 0–1 at home. Their third encounter came last season in the main stage of the Europa League, where “Qarabag” fell 0–3 in London.
Finally, in the 2018/19 Europa League group stage, “Qarabag” met “Arsenal”, losing 0–3 in Baku and 0–1 in London.
“Qarabag” will next play away to “Napoli” on November 25 in their ongoing Champions League campaign.
