“Our team faces another difficult match. Three days ago, we spent a lot of energy playing against a strong France side, so physical recovery is crucial,” Arif Asadov told sport24.az.
The experienced coach shared his thoughts ahead of Azerbaijan’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Ukraine:
“Our players aren’t used to playing matches every three days. Since our squad isn’t very deep, we may face difficulties. Ukraine’s win over Iceland has strengthened their chances for second place, and they’ll aim not to drop points against us. We’ll need extra effort and a bit of luck to get something from this game. There’s always a chance to earn points. Since Aykhan Abbasov took charge, we’ve seen clear improvement — the team plays with more desire. If our players perform well in attack, we can get the result we want.”
The Ukraine–Azerbaijan match will take place today in Krakow, Poland, kicking off at 22:45 Baku time.
