Azerbaijan's women's national team remains among the leaders of the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, as the tournament enters its sixth round.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the Azerbaijani women have made a perfect start to the 11-round Swiss-system competition, winning all five of their matches so far.
In the previous round, Azerbaijan defeated Serbia 3-1. Gunay Mammadzada and Khanim Balajayeva secured victories on their boards, while Ulviyya Fataliyeva and Govhar Beydullayeva drew their games.
Earlier in the tournament, Azerbaijan recorded convincing 4-0 victories over Guatemala and Denmark before beating Sweden and England by identical 2.5-1.5 scores.
The women's team will face Kazakhstan in the sixth round today, with the match starting at 14:00 Baku time.
Azerbaijan's men's team will take on Argentina at the same time. The team drew 2-2 with Romania in the fifth round, with Rauf Mammadov winning his game, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov suffering a defeat, and Aydin Suleymanli and Mahammad Muradli drawing their encounters.
The Azerbaijani men's team had previously defeated Morocco 4-0 and recorded 3-1 victories over the Philippines and Switzerland before drawing 2-2 with the Czech Republic.
The World Chess Olympiad consists of 11 rounds and will conclude on September 27.
