Azerbaijan head coach: “Almost 50% of the team won medals at the European Championship”

Taleh Israfilov, head coach of Azerbaijan’s U17 Greco-Roman wrestling team, shared his thoughts on the team’s performance at the European Championship held in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia.

In an interview with Report, Israfilov expressed satisfaction with the tournament, Idman.biz reports.

“We had some challenges, but we managed to overcome them. Nearly 50 percent of our team won medals. We will finalize our preparation plans for the World Championship with the federation and provide updates accordingly,” the coach said.

Azerbaijan’s U17 Greco-Roman wrestlers concluded the European Championship with a total of five medals: two gold, one silver, and two bronze. Abdurrahman Huseynli (45 kg) and Rihad Ibrahimli (110 kg) were crowned European champions. Ali Nazarov (60 kg) took silver, while Gurban Majnunov (48 kg) and Nijat Yeylagaliyev (80 kg) earned bronze.

With 116 points, Azerbaijan finished third in the team standings.
