The Azerbaijan women’s national wrestling team has kicked off an international training camp in Nigde, Turkiye.
The team has started joint training sessions with the host nation's squad. The camp, which runs until June 25, is also expected to include wrestlers from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, Idman.biz reports.
This preparation phase is part of the team’s buildup to upcoming international competitions. Under the guidance of acting head coach Togrul Asgarov and senior coach Agahuseyn Mustafayev, the following athletes are participating: Asmar Cankurtaran (50 kg), Elnura Mammadova (53 kg), Nargiz Samadova, Gultakin Shirinova (both 55 kg), Jala Aliyeva (57 kg), Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg), Ruzanna Mammadova, and Birgul Soltanova (both 62 kg).
Following the camp, Gunay Gurbanova and Ruzanna Mammadova will head to Caorle, Italy, to compete in the U20 European Championships. The rest of the team will take part in the prestigious Yasar Dogu, Vehbi Emre, and Hamit Kaplan Memorial Tournament in Kocaeli, Turkiye.
