The medals to be awarded at the World Aquatics Championships have been made from aluminum beverage cans.
A total of 77 sets of medals will be contested at the event, Idman.biz reports.
According to the organizing committee, 100,000 aluminum cans were collected and used to produce 5,000 medals. This initiative has been named “Trash to Treasure,” with Singaporean schoolchildren and students actively participating in the campaign.
Each medal weighs approximately 150 grams, and around 20 recycled cans were used to create a single medal.
The World Championships being held in Singapore started on July 11 and will continue until August 3.
