The German national team will be represented by a record number of athletes at the upcoming World University Games, which will be held on home soil.
The host nation’s delegation will include 305 athletes, the largest squad Germany has ever sent to a Universiade, Idman.biz reports.
Chairman of the Board of the German University Sports Federation, Jorg Forster, expressed pride in assembling the biggest German team in the event’s history: "This reflects the growing importance of university sports in Germany and the close, successful cooperation among all stakeholders. The World University Games in the Rhine-Ruhr region will give our athletes the opportunity to combine sporting success with academic careers. These games will provide a lasting boost to the development of university sports in Germany."
The opening ceremony of the Universiade will take place tomorrow.
Azerbaijan will also participate in the competition, with athletes competing in 12 sports: athletics, badminton, archery, beach volleyball, rhythmic gymnastics, taekwondo, canoe and kayak, swimming, table tennis, tennis, judo, and fencing.
