A total of 234 medal sets will be awarded at the upcoming World Universiade, which will take place in Germany’s Rhine-Ruhr region.
The multi-sport event will feature competition in 18 disciplines, with Azerbaijan’s national team among the participants, Idman.biz reports.
The sports contested will include judo, athletics, basketball, 3x3 basketball, water polo, swimming, diving, volleyball, beach volleyball, rowing, tennis, table tennis, badminton, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, archery, taekwondo, and fencing.
To date, Germany has hosted the Universiade only once before—in 1989 in Duisburg—when 1,785 athletes from 79 countries competed.
The upcoming event, scheduled from July 16 to 27, is expected to attract over 8,500 participants from 160 countries.
