Iran protests impact sports: former footballer killed, coach seriously injured

Iranian protests have had tragic consequences for the sports community, with a former footballer killed and a coach seriously wounded amid ongoing unrest.

Former Tractor Tabriz player Mojtaba Tarshiz was shot dead during the protests together with his wife. Official details of the incident have not been disclosed, Idman.Biz reports.

In a separate incident, the head coach of amateur football club Mahan Novin, Mehdi Levasani, sustained a serious gunshot wound in Tehran’s Narmak district. According to available information, the bullet entered through his back and exited through the front of his chest. No official statements have been released regarding either case so far.

It should be noted that Iran has witnessed mass protests in recent days, sparked by social and economic problems, with reports of violence emerging from several regions.
