"This week, we will witness Rhythmic Gymnastics in all its glory as the European Championships are contested in the Estonian capital Tallinn."
This was stated by the President of European Gymnastics (EG), Farid Gayibov, Idman.biz reports.
"Arriving back home from Leipzig I look back with pleasure and pride on the gymnastics festivities witnessed last week in Germany. Bringing together people from all over our continent, the 2025 European Championships in Artistic Gymnastics were held this year in the framework of the International German Gymnastics Festival ‘Das Turnfest’. A huge task for the organizer, the German Gymnastics Federation DTB, which they handled expertly. Over 60,000 people participated in the Gymnastics for All part of the Turnfest, while 301 elite athletes fought for the European titles.
These European Championships delivered several historic moments. First on my mind is of course the launch of the Mixed Team Final. Trialed and tested at the last two editions of the European Youth Olympic Festival, our Technical Committees revised the format to match the expectations of an international TV audience. Thanks to the great collaboration between TCs, TV, Sports Presentation and competition management, we delivered an exciting final that got loads of praise. And the host nation etched their names in that history book immediately: Karina Schoenmaier and Timo Eder clinched the first ever European Mixed Team title. More home success followed for Germany, to delight to the sell-out crowd. Congratulations to all the medallists, you’ve made your mark!

Over the past years, we ‘ve made tremendous progress in the alignment between the TV production, the venue announcements and sports presentation, putting the athletes well and truly in the spotlight. Our mascot Luigi provides entertainment to both the audience and the gymnasts, showing a fun aspect of high level competitions. Thanks to the teams involved behind the scenes to make our events this attractive.

A fitting end to a gymnastics-filled week in Leipzig was provided at the Stadion Gala where our Champions received their honours in front of 40,000 enthusiastic spectators. Danke DTB, you pulled off an incredible event!

Two weeks after the Baku event, the second European Cup of this year was held in the Bulgarian seaside resort of Burgas. Israel’s Meital Sumkin and the Hungarian group showed that this format is as exciting as it is unpredictable as they stood victorious on the Cross Battle podium. A valuable addition to our competition calendar.

On 9 and 10 May, I participated in the FIG Council meeting in Qawra (MLT). There, we approved the qualification system for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles (USA) for the four Olympic disciplines Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics and Trampoline. The proposed changes to the Technical Regulations, as well as the update of the Code of Discipline and the GfA Manual were approved too, as where the 2024 accounts and auditors’ reports, and the 2025 revised budget and auditors' report.
This week, we will witness Rhythmic Gymnastics in all its glory as the European Championships are contested in the Estonian capital Tallinn. I already want to congratulate the Estonian Gymnastics Federation led by its President Natalja Inno for taking on the challenge. It’s the first time ever that Estonia organizes a European Gymnastics event. And I’m sure they will deliver a great event!”
