"We hope that Nikita Simonov, who won in Cottbus a few weeks ago, will continue his successful performance in Baku."
Idman.biz reports that this was said by Nurlana Mammadzada, the general secretary of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation.
He said that gymnast Simonov, who won the first place in hoops at the World Cup held in Baku last year, is now fighting for a license to the Olympic Games: "He has good opportunities to get a license. We believe that everything will be done in Nikita and will make Azerbaijan's fans happy."
According to Mammadzada, other Azerbaijani gymnasts, including Ivan Tikhonov, have a chance to perform successfully: "Rasul Ahmadzada performed among juniors last season. Now he is spending his first season in the elite. We expect good results from all our gymnasts."
The official of the institution also noted that the leaders of world gymnastics are coming to Baku: "It can be said that the competition in almost every type will be very big. World-class names have come to Baku and an interesting fight awaits us."
It should be noted that a record number of 590 athletes from 67 countries participated in the World Cup held at the National Gymnastics Arena.
