A 50-Year-Old Gymnast Plans to Compete at the 2028 Olympic Games

Olympic champion of the 1992 team event, 50-year-old Uzbek gymnast Oksana Chusovitina, has revealed her plan to pursue qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games.

As reported by Idman.biz, Chusovitina explained that she has taken a break from competitions to fully focus on preparing routines on all four apparatuses.

"I did not plan to go to the World Championships in Jakarta this year. I decided to take a break to prepare routines for all four apparatuses. Right now, I want only to train and not be distracted by competitions. My goal is to prepare calmly so that in 2027–2028 I can qualify for the Olympic Games," Chusovitina said in an interview with TASS.

Chusovitina remains the only gymnast in history to have competed in eight consecutive Olympic Games: 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020. Over her remarkable career, she has won Olympic gold, claimed three world championship titles, and earned victories at the European Championships and Asian Games. She has represented the national teams of the USSR, Germany, and Uzbekistan.
