Isaac Amoah: “I’ve been through that path myself” – INTERVIEW

Interview with Gabala’s new foreign player Isaac Amoah for Sportinfo.az

You started the game against Zira quickly, scored the opening goal, and created several scoring opportunities. What do you think caused the defeat?

We didn’t play badly in the first half. However, in the last 15 minutes, we made some mistakes that the opponent exploited skillfully. We did our best and fought hard. As I said, we lost due to small errors. We need to work on our mistakes.

There is a big difference between Gabala and Zira in every aspect. Can a narrow defeat be considered almost a draw?

Zira has some really experienced players. In such cases, we tried not to fall behind them. At certain moments, we even looked superior. If luck had been on our side in the scoring chances, we could genuinely talk about a draw. After a few weeks of playing together, I promise you’ll see a better Gabala.

Your squad has a fair number of young players. Does their mistakes upset the other players?

It’s normal for 18–20-year-old players to make mistakes. I’ve been through that myself. A person learns from their errors. Especially against experienced teams, excitement can lead to mistakes. And it’s not only the youngsters, even the most experienced players make mistakes.

There are questions about strengthening the team with new players. Do you think it’s possible to maintain your Premier League position with this squad?

Regardless of the squad’s quality, our main goal remains the same. To achieve it, we must give everything on the pitch. The season has just started, and a lot will happen in the coming months. I know the abilities and character of my teammates, and I believe we can reach our goal.

Is it difficult to play in Azerbaijan’s top league?

The Premier League represents a high level. The name itself carries great significance. Strong teams and quality players are concentrated in the championship. It is tough, indeed. But I focus not on the difficulty, but on overcoming it. I must ensure I contribute to Gabala.
