Interview with Gabala’s new signing Jaime Sierra.
First of all, we’d like to hear your thoughts on joining Gabala. What are your impressions?
My impressions are good. Everything at the club is at a high level, and there is professional organization. Gabala has a good training base. Good work is being done here. This is one of the most important things for a club.
Before coming to Gabala, did you know much about Azerbaijani football?
To be honest, no. I was almost completely unaware of the country’s football. Before coming here, I got information through agents. Later, I researched the teams in your country.
Did you consult with any Spanish footballer who had played in Azerbaijan?
I spoke with Mikel Alvaro. He previously played for Keshla (now Shamakhi). He spoke highly of your league and also said positive things about Azerbaijan.
Gabala returned to the top division after winning the First League last season. In your opinion, what should be the team’s main goal this season?
First and foremost, the main goal is to win every match. After that, we can think about the next results.
You are a product of Spain’s famous Real Madrid academy, but you didn’t get many opportunities in La Liga. How do you explain that?
I played for Leganes in my country. After that, I had to make some decisions. Then I chose to play abroad and went to Belgium.
You were at the Madrid club’s academy from 2004 to 2014. Which well-known footballers did you play alongside?
I played with a number of well-known footballers. I can name Achraf Hakimi, who currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain. We played together in Real Madrid’s youth teams.
