PSG accused of trying to remove Hakimi’s Ballon d’Or comments

PSG reportedly tried to remove Achraf Hakimi’s comments about the Ballon d’Or from an interview.

The Paris club’s and Morocco national team’s right-back told Canal+ that he deserves the prestigious award, Idman.biz reports.

Hakimi said he had an historic season: “There have been very few players who scored in the Champions League quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final. For a defender, it’s even harder to do that.”

According to L’Equipe, PSG is supporting Ousmane Dembele as a candidate for the season’s best player award. However, the club also has a positive attitude towards other players’ candidacies, including Hakimi’s, not wanting to offend anyone.

Nevertheless, understanding that the Ballon d’Or remarks could cause controversy, the club allegedly tried to remove that part of the interview. Hakimi refused, saying he had the right to express his desire to win the award.

The source notes that PSG responded to the situation by saying they are “completely calm” and “fully focused on preparing for the UEFA Super Cup match against Tottenham” on August 13.

At the same time, PSG denies any attempt to interfere with the interview, while L’Equipe insists on its report.

The Ballon d’Or winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on September 22.
