Elmar Bakhshiyev: "That’s why it can’t be said the team is 100% ready"
“The preparation went according to plan. We held two training sessions per day. As planned, we wanted to play 3-4 friendly matches, and we achieved that. The team members tried to reflect what we worked on during training.”
These words were said by Araz-Nakhchivan head coach Elmar Bakhshiyev in an interview with Sport24.az.
The experienced specialist was also pleased that three of their opponents were Super League teams: “In short, we tried to make the most of the two-week period. We had a useful training camp. We will see its benefits in the upcoming games and the championship.”
The head coach expressed satisfaction with the team’s training camp in Turkiye: “We will finalize the preparation for the game against Aris in Baku. During the camp, we had certain workload, tactical and technical work. We will gradually see its results. That’s why it can’t be said that the team is 100% ready. However, I think the readiness is close to 70-80%. As I mentioned, our last three opponents were teams playing in the Turkish Super League. Matches against such strong rivals allow us to assess tactical, physical, and functional readiness, check and improve connections between lines, identify mistakes, and work on them. We also tried to give playing time to all the players we brought to the camp. I was pleased with the players. They were motivated and eager. Despite the hot weather, we had no problems with training. The hotel’s nutrition and training facilities were also in good condition. Hopefully, we will see the benefits of this in the matches.”
The first leg of the second qualifying round between Araz-Nakhchivan and Aris in the Conference League will take place in Baku on July 24, and the return leg will be held in Greece on July 31.
