The final medal of the Misli Premier League season has been claimed by Araz-Nakhchivan.
Elmar Bakhshiyev’s team secured third place in the 35th round, continuing a nine-season trend where the bronze medal changes hands each year, Idman.biz reports.
The latest beneficiary of this pattern is Araz-Nakhchivan, who replaced last year’s third-place team, Sabah, after they fell out of the top three.
The last team to win bronze in consecutive seasons was Gabala, achieving this feat in 2013/14, 2014/15, and 2015/16. They ended their bronze run by upgrading to silver in the 2016/17 season.
However, not every third-place team has followed an upward trajectory.
While Gabala (2015/16) and Neftchi (2017/18) turned bronze into silver the following year, others haven’t been as fortunate.
Teams like:
Inter (2016/17)
Sabail (2018/19)
Keshla (2019/20)
Sumgayit (2020/21)
Zira (2021/22)
Neftchi (2022/23)
Sabah (2023/24)
…all dropped out of the medal race the following season — a trend that has persisted over the past six years.
Overall, 16 different clubs have won bronze in league history.
Neftchi holds the record with 7 bronze finishes.
Shamakhi, through its previous names Inter and Keshla, has 4.
Qarabag and Gabala follow with 3 bronze medals each.
