Mahir Emreli: “I have a different mentality”

“We made our decision about Mahir Emreli long ago — and we won’t be going back on it.”

This statement comes from Miroslav Klose, head coach of German club Nürnberg, Idman.biz reports.

The 2. Bundesliga side has decided not to extend the contract of the Azerbaijani international forward.

Klose emphasized that his assessment of players goes beyond what they do on the pitch:
"For me, a player's overall profile matters most. We know what major clubs he has played for and what he’s achieved in top leagues. He told us he wanted to join our team and work with me. But despite our efforts, we had no opportunity to continue working together. That doesn’t change the respect we have for each other."

Despite the contract decision, Emreli proved his value in Nürnberg’s final league match, scoring a hat-trick in a 4–1 win against Eintracht. Reflecting on that game and the situation, the 27-year-old forward said:

"Some players avoid taking risks and skip the last game before the transfer window opens. But I have a different mentality. I believe that where you're loved and paid, you should always give your best. Not just me — my whole family, especially my mother, fell in love with this city, the stadium, the atmosphere, and the fans. We will always miss Nürnberg."

Both Emreli and the club mutually agreed not to renew his contract, which expires this summer.
