Azerbaijan's Neftchi football club have ended their unsuccessful run of starts in the Misli Premier League.
Idman.Biz reports that the Professional Football League announced this.
After beginning three consecutive seasons without a victory, the Baku side defeated Sumgayit 3-1 away in the opening round of the new campaign.
The Black and Whites had last started a season with a victory in 2022/2023, when they beat Shamakhi 1-0 away.
Neftchi had not scored at least three goals in an opening-round match since the 2013/2014 season. Thirteen years ago, the capital club recorded a 4-1 home victory over AZAL in a Baku derby.
The club's latest result also ended an even longer run. Neftchi scored three or more goals in an away season opener for the first time in 25 years.
Their previous such achievement came in the 2001/2002 season, when Neftchi defeated Umid 4-0 away.
