Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Aykhan Javadov (60 kg) feels happy after winning a gold medal at the World Championship by defeating an Armenian athlete.
Javadov himself spoke to Report news agency after claiming the top spot on the podium at the U-20 World Championship held in Samokov, Bulgaria, Idman.biz reports.
He dedicated his victory to the people of Azerbaijan and his family: “It’s hard to put these feelings into words. The competition was very magnificent for me. I was nervous before the match. Our encounters with Armenian athletes have always been of principal importance. I am proud to have raised the Azerbaijani flag by defeating my opponent. My toughest match was against the athlete in the final. Even though I was behind on the scoreboard, I recovered and achieved a successful result. I express my gratitude to all my coaches who prepared me for the competition and to the people of Azerbaijan for their support.”
Aykhan Javadov defeated Armenian Yurik Mkhitaryan 12:5 in the decisive match to claim the podium.
