Azerbaijani women’s wrestler Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg) has set her sights on winning a gold medal at the World Championship.
Idman.biz reports that the athlete, who won a bronze medal at the U-20 World Championship held in Samokov, Bulgaria, said this in a statement to Report news agency.
She noted that she had prepared seriously for the tournament: "I went to Bulgaria with the goal of becoming a world champion. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. Maybe overconfidence in the semifinal kept me from winning. Defeat is also part of sports. Every loss is a lesson."
Gunay Gurbanova, who is still young, expressed her ambition to achieve greater success in the future:
"I’m only 17. From this perspective, the bronze medal can also be considered a good result. I am grateful for it. I will do my best to become a world champion in the upcoming competitions."
Gunay Gurbanova defeated Canadian Ella Finding 4:1 in the bronze medal match to climb the podium.
