Ulvu Ganizade: " My goal is to compete in the Olympic weight class " – INTERVIEW

Interview of Ulvu Ganizade (72 kg), Greco-Roman wrestler of the Azerbaijani national team, to Idman.biz website

- You won confidently in the first competition of the year - Zagreb Open. Are you in better form or were your opponents weaker?

- The opponents were not powerless, of course. In the ranking tournament, there are no weak opponents. This race just felt wonderful to me. I was fit, and in the end, I prevailed.

- How does it feel to start the year with a gold medal?

- This made me more accountable to myself.

- How do you evaluate the performance of the national team in Greco-Roman wrestling?

- I can say about the overall performance of the team that we could have won more gold medals. Eldeniz Azizli in 55 kg and Rafig Huseynov in 82 kg did not perform. If they wrestled, the number of our champions would be more.

- What are your main goals this year?

- We are looking forward to the European Championship. I'm optimistic that my colleagues and I will perform well.

- Do you believe that you will become European Champion for the second time?

- Of course, it is possible. All you need to do is train confidently and approach the competition responsibly. If there are these, victory will come.

- Can we watch you in the Olympic weight in the future? Do you have such a plan?

- I have it in my plan. This is not possible in Paris-2024. My teammates in lower and higher weight than me have won licenses. I will try to make it happen in 2028. I won a medal in both the European and World Championships. Only the Olympic medal remains. I do not approach this issue without hope.
