The U-23 World Championship held in Novi Sad, Serbia, marked a historic achievement for Azerbaijani wrestling.
Idman.Biz reports that the president of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, Mikayil Jabbarov, shared the news on his social media account.
The federation head congratulated the athletes for their medals:
"Historic success for Azerbaijani wrestling at the U-23 World Championship! Our team delivered outstanding performances in Novi Sad, winning a total of seven medals – 3 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze. This is the best result in Azerbaijan’s history at U-23 World Championships! We are proud of our wrestlers who demonstrated determination, discipline, and character, raising our flag once again. We sincerely congratulate the athletes, their coaches, and parents on this remarkable achievement. The future is even brighter – new victories await us."
In Novi Sad, Elmir Aliyev (55 kg), Ziya Babashov (63 kg), and Kenan Heybatov (70 kg) became world champions. Khetaq Karsanov (125 kg) won a silver medal. Ruslan Nurullayev (72 kg), Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg), and Ali Tsokayev (86 kg) secured bronze medals.
