Azerbaijani wrestlers continue their campaign at the U-23 World Championships, the Wrestling Federation reported to Idman.Biz.
In the Greco-Roman 63 kg category, Ziya Babashov defeated Japan’s Miruto Tokuhiga 7:1 and Iran’s Mohammad Navid 3:1. He then faced Russia’s Dordji Shungurtsikov (UWW), drawing 1:1 but advancing to the semifinals based on the first-point advantage. In the semifinal, Babashov will meet Turkiye’s Servet Angi.
In the 77 kg category, Davud Mammadov lost 0:5 to Hungary’s Levente Leva in the qualification round.
In the 87 kg category, Lachin Valiyev was defeated 0:8 by Iran’s Gholamreza Farukhisencani in the preliminaries.
In the 130 kg category, Aykhan Mardanov advanced to the quarterfinals by pinning China’s Shuangyu Chen, but was defeated 0:9 by Russia’s Aleksandr Melekhov (UWW) in that round.
The semifinals are scheduled to begin at 20:00 Baku time.
