A “Swiss Days” event was held on Baku Boulevard.

According to Idman.Biz, the event was organized by the Swiss Embassy in Azerbaijan in cooperation with the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation (AWF). Swiss wrestlers Qian Odermatt, Karim Leuppi, Andrin Poltera, and Daniel Bos, who specialize in the traditional Swiss wrestling style “Schwingen,” engaged in matches with Azerbaijani national wrestlers.

It was reported that the musical and entertaining ceremony, held as part of the experience exchange, attracted significant attention from spectators. Switzerland’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Thomas Staheli, AGF Secretary General Parvin Piriyev, and other federation officials emphasized that the initiative greatly contributes to sharing techniques, traditions, and values between athletes of both countries, strengthening international sports relations, and promoting mutual understanding through the universal language of wrestling.

They noted that such initiatives bring wrestling closer to the public, foster genuine connections between renowned athletes and local communities, and encourage youth participation in sports. In the future, joint training camps and enhanced collaboration between the two countries in this sport are planned.

It should be noted that “Schwingen” is a traditional folk wrestling style performed on sawdust-covered wooden planks and is considered one of Switzerland’s most famous and symbolic national sports.
