Neftchi midfielder Sessi D'Almeida was among the players who took part in Lionel Messi's farewell match for Argentina.
As reported by İdman.Biz, D'Almeida started for Benin wearing the captain's armband and remained on the pitch for the entire match.
Before kick-off, the Neftchi player took part in a special tribute to Messi. During the traditional meeting between the captains, D'Almeida presented the Argentine star with commemorative gifts from the Benin national team, including a special statuette and a letter from the squad.
The two players later crossed paths several times during the match. In the 90+3rd minute, D'Almeida fouled Messi near the penalty area. The Argentine took the resulting free-kick himself but sent his effort over the crossbar.
The match at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires ended in a 3-0 victory for Argentina. Messi marked his final appearance for the national team by scoring from the penalty spot and providing two assists.
The match brought an end to Messi's international career, which began with his senior Argentina debut in 2005. The legendary forward's greatest achievement with the Albiceleste was captaining the team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup title.
D'Almeida, meanwhile, represents Azerbaijan Premier League club Neftchi and is an experienced member of the Benin national team.
