Argentina captain Lionel Messi has admitted that he will miss training with the national team as he prepares for his final appearance in the Albiceleste shirt.
According to İdman.Biz, the forward joined the Argentina squad on October 5 and has already taken part in his final training session with the national team.
Argentina will face Benin in a friendly on October 7, with the match set to be Messi's last appearance for his country.
"Special moments — I'm sure I'll miss them," Messi said, as quoted by journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Messi's international career has been one of the most decorated in football history. With Argentina, he won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Copa America in 2021 and 2024, and the Finalissima in 2022.
He also won Olympic gold in 2008 and the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2005. Messi finished as a World Cup runner-up in 2014 and 2026, while he also claimed Copa America silver medals in 2007, 2015 and 2016 and bronze in 2019.
The match against Benin will bring the curtain down on an international career spanning more than two decades.
