Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister Elma Aveiro has reacted strongly to the footballer’s decision to leave the Portugal national team camp ahead of schedule.
As reported by İdman.Biz, Aveiro published a lengthy statement on social media criticising Ronaldo’s situation within the national team, the organisation surrounding the squad and the Portuguese media.
“Cristiano deserved more respect. The nation deserved better organisation. Portuguese journalism deserved more professionalism and less speculation.
“As for the Portuguese... They do not deserve to have the best of everything. We are envious, disrespectful and ignorant. We deserve to return to the ordinary mediocrity that always existed in our football before Ronaldo.
“Thank you for everything, CR7. You deserved more!” Aveiro wrote.
Ronaldo left Portugal’s training camp in Copenhagen on September 30 following head coach Jorge Jesus’ press conference.
The 41-year-old later issued a statement saying he had made the decision after a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença.
Ronaldo also indicated that he would explain the reasons behind his departure from the national team when the time was right, promising to reveal “the whole truth”.
