Former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland midfielder Roy Keane has delivered a scathing assessment of Manchester City after the club were found guilty of breaching the English Premier League's financial rules.
As reported by İdman.Biz, Keane believes City's players should even consider throwing away the medals they won during the period covered by the case.
"They knew it would have a huge impact on a lot of people, but they still did it. If I was a player, I would 100% throw those medals in the bin. What else could you do? It's cheating.
"They won on the pitch because there was cheating going on behind the scenes," the Daily Mail quoted Keane as saying.
Manchester City were found guilty last week on almost all charges relating to breaches of the Premier League's financial regulations, with the club cleared on only one point.
The case dates back to February 2023, when the Premier League initially announced that City had been charged with 115 alleged breaches of its financial rules covering the period from 2009 to 2018.
The Times later reported that the actual number of alleged breaches was 130 rather than 115, explaining that confusion over the way several rules were counted had arisen when the charges were first announced.
