England and Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has emerged as the leading candidate to win the 2026 Ballon d'Or, according to Polymarket, one of the world's largest decentralised prediction platforms.
As reported by İdman.Biz, voting to determine the winner of the prestigious award has already concluded. However, the organisers will keep the result secret until the ceremony in London on October 26.
Meanwhile, the picture on Polymarket has changed significantly. Kane's chances of winning the Ballon d'Or are currently estimated at around 58 per cent.
The Bayern striker has opened up a sizeable lead over Lamine Yamal, who is second with a 22 per cent chance. Kylian Mbappe is rated at around eight per cent, while Lionel Messi and Rodri are both on five per cent.
It should be noted that Polymarket's figures reflect the expectations of prediction-market participants and are not connected to the official Ballon d'Or voting results.
In recent years, the identity of the winner has been kept secret until the awards ceremony. Previously, however, the Ballon d'Or winner could be informed in advance to allow time for an interview and photoshoot with France Football magazine.
