Barcelona and Spain star Lamine Yamal has opened up about the financial difficulties his family faced during his childhood.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the 19-year-old told The Guardian that the challenges he experienced growing up have shaped the way he deals with the pressure that comes with playing football at the highest level.
According to Yamal, his mother worked hard to support his football development, while his father collected pieces of metal from the streets that could be sold to help the family afford food.
"I've seen my father collecting metal from the streets so that I could eat," Yamal said.
The Spanish international explained that, for him, real fear and pressure were the difficulties his family faced during that period rather than the expectations he now encounters on the football pitch.
Yamal said he is happy that his football career has allowed him to support his parents financially and provide his family with a completely different standard of living.
The Barcelona winger has previously spoken about growing up in a small apartment where the kitchen and bedroom were effectively part of the same space.
Yamal added that one of his greatest sources of happiness today is being able to give his family and younger brother opportunities that he himself did not have as a child.
