Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham has backed Lionel Messi to win his ninth Ballon d'Or.
As İdman.Biz reports, Beckham made the statement after Inter Miami defeated Mexican side Cruz Azul 2-0 to win the Campeones Cup.
Messi played a key role in the victory, scoring the opening goal and providing an assist for Casemiro, who netted the second.
"Messi should win the Ballon d'Or. He was arguably the best player at the World Cup, and he had an incredible year as well. To have that kind of impact at a World Cup... Nobody at 39 can do what he does at this level," All About Argentina quoted Beckham as saying.
The goal against Cruz Azul was Messi's 100th for Inter Miami and the 929th of his career.
The Argentine also became the fastest player in MLS history to score 100 goals for one club in all competitions. Messi reached the milestone in 115 appearances.
The 39-year-old has won the Ballon d'Or a record eight times, with his most recent triumph coming in 2023.
