Bosnia and Herzegovina striker Edin Dzeko will retire from international football after the UEFA Nations League match against Sweden on October 2.
As İdman.Biz reports, Dzeko announced the decision on his social media account. He said that he will play his final match for the national team, which he has represented since 2007, in front of the home supporters.
The experienced forward has currently made 151 appearances for Bosnia and Herzegovina and scored 73 goals. Dzeko is the all-time leading scorer in the history of the national team.
He also captained Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The team was eliminated in the round of 32 after a 2-0 defeat to the United States. Dzeko scored six goals during the qualifying campaign and played a major role in helping Bosnia and Herzegovina reach the World Cup for only the second time in their history.
In his statement, Dzeko said that wearing the national team shirt had given him the greatest sense of pride in his career. He added that the time had come to make way for a new generation.
