Three members of Azerbaijan's national badminton team began their campaigns at the World Championships in New Delhi, India, on August 17.
As reported by İdman.Biz, two Azerbaijani players competed in the men's singles event on the opening day, while one representative took to the court in the women's singles competition.
Azerbaijan's men's singles leader Edi Resky Dwicahyo defeated Sweden's Gustav Bjorkler. After losing the opening game 14-21, Dwicahyo fought back to win the next two 21-17 and 21-18, securing his place in the round of 32.
Dwicahyo will face Japan's Yushi Tanaka on August 19 for a place in the last 16.
Azerbaijan's other men's representative, Dicky Dwi Pangestu, was eliminated in the round of 64. He lost 19-21, 17-21 to Denmark's Anders Antonsen, who is ranked fourth in the world.
In the women's singles event, Keisha Fatimah Az Zahra was also unable to advance. She suffered an 18-21, 4-21 defeat to Denmark's Mia Blichfeldt in the round of 64.
The Badminton World Championships in New Delhi will conclude on August 23.
