Van Dijk opens up on working under Iraola

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has shared his thoughts on working under new head coach Andoni Iraola following the team’s 3–2 friendly defeat to Monaco. As reported by İdman.Biz, citing the club’s press service, the experienced defender spoke positively about the early stages of their collaboration.

“The work is going very well. We had a very good conversation in his first week at the club. The most important thing is that he understands I am ready to work no matter what. I’ve already told him that,” said van Dijk. “I hope we will achieve success in the new season. That’s what we’re working towards.”

The Dutch defender also reflected on his time under previous head coach Arne Slot, expressing appreciation despite last season’s struggles.

“I can’t say anything bad about Arne Slot and his staff. We had a very good time. It’s just that last season wasn’t very successful for us. Now we have a new coach and new training methods, so we need to adapt to all of that.

“I enjoyed working under Arne, and I’m sure I’ll enjoy working with the new coach as well,” he added.

It should be noted that Andoni Iraola was appointed Liverpool head coach on June 4, 2026, replacing Arne Slot. The Spanish tactician signed a two-year contract running until the end of the 2027/28 season.
