Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero is close to joining Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
İdman.Biz reports, citing journalist Nicolò Schira, that an agreement in principle has been reached between Romero and Atletico Madrid over a contract until 2030, worth €6 million per year, with an option to extend it until 2031.
“An agreement in principle has been reached between Cristian Romero and Atletico Madrid over a contract until 2030 (€6 million per year), with the option to extend it until 2031. Atletico are currently negotiating the terms of the deal with Tottenham. Tottenham are demanding €40–45 million for the centre-back, although the player has already asked to leave,” Schira wrote.
During the 2025/26 Premier League season, the 28-year-old Romero made 23 appearances, scoring four goals and providing one assist. He also featured in eight Champions League matches, scoring once and registering two assists.
