FIFA has issued an official statement following its executive committee meeting in Rabat, Morocco, reaffirming its support for president Gianni Infantino amid recent media reports surrounding a proposed sale of World Cup-related rights.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing FIFA's official website, the organization's secretary general and the executive committee members in attendance unanimously expressed their full confidence in Infantino. They also praised the FIFA administration for its significant contribution to the successful organization of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The meeting also addressed the proposal submitted by FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE). According to the statement, it was acknowledged that mistakes had been made during the development of the project. In particular, FIFA's Council and its member associations should not have felt excluded from the decision-making process, and the initiative should have been handled differently. The statement also admitted that additional errors occurred after details of the proposal were leaked to the media. As a result, the proposal has been formally withdrawn and is no longer under consideration.
"FIFA will not tolerate any attacks on its integrity," the organization said in its statement.
Infantino has served as FIFA president since February 2016, having previously held senior positions at UEFA. Earlier reports claimed that he had been promoting a plan that could have earned him tens of millions of pounds personally, while negotiations were allegedly conducted with figures linked to the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. The reports drew criticism from a number of football organizations and prominent figures within the sporting community.
