The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) is testing a new technology designed to accurately determine whether the ball has crossed the boundary lines, Idman.Biz reports, citing the BBC.
The development is called Out of Bounds and is one of several innovations that were tested during three Intercontinental Cup matches held in Qatar.
In addition, FIFA has expanded the use of the "Real-time 3D Recreation" technology, which is intended to make offside decisions based on the line of sight faster and clearer. The system includes two virtual broadcasts available both to the video assistant referee (VAR) and to television viewers. These recreations show the perspective of both goalkeepers, making controversial moments easier to understand.
It remains unclear whether the new technologies will be introduced in national leagues.
