Today marks Memorial Day in Azerbaijan

Today is the Memorial Day for the heroic martyrs who gave their lives in the Patriotic War, which was launched to stop Armenia’s military provocations and combat activities against Azerbaijan and to ensure the safety of civilians. Idman.biz reminds that September 27 has been observed as Memorial Day in Azerbaijan for five years.

On September 27, 2020, the Azerbaijani Army launched a rapid counter-offensive operation in response to Armenia’s occupation policies and frontline provocations. Under the order of President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev, our army began the fight for the liberation of our lands. The valiant Azerbaijani Army swiftly cleared the territories that had been under occupation for 30 years.

As a result, Azerbaijan’s ancient and eternal lands, long under Armenian occupation, were liberated, restoring the country’s territorial integrity. Reconstruction and rehabilitation work is currently ongoing in the liberated areas, and efforts are being made to ensure that people can return to their homes.

According to the decree of President Ilham Aliyev on December 2, 2020, in honor of the soldiers and officers who heroically fought in the Patriotic War and sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of our country, September 27 is annually observed as Memorial Day in Azerbaijan.

May God have mercy on our martyrs!
