A memorandum on expanding sports relations between Azerbaijan and Albania was discussed.

A meeting with Albanian sports officials was held at the administrative building of the NOC. Participants included the NOC Vice-President Chingiz Huseynzade, President of the Albanian Olympic Committee Fidel Ylli, President of the Albanian Gymnastics Federation Leonard Lulay, President of the European Weightlifting Federation Astrit Hasani, Director of the NOC Foreign Relations Department Anar Bagirov, and Director of the Marketing Department Sakina Valiyeva.
During the meeting, issues related to the signing of a memorandum on expanding sports relations between Azerbaijan and Albania were discussed.
Welcoming the guests, Chingiz Huseynzade provided detailed information about the work done and achievements made in the development of sports in Azerbaijan. While discussing the activities of the Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation, he noted that successes have also been achieved in this sport. Huseynzade expressed his belief that after the memorandum is signed, local federations of both countries will establish closer cooperation.
Fidel Ylli stated that the main purpose of his visit to Azerbaijan was to expand cooperation opportunities with the National Olympic Committee and federations of Azerbaijan: “Although our infrastructure is not as extensive as yours, we have very good connections. We can use this to further expand our relations. I also want to note that we can use this meeting to discuss the process of signing the memorandum. Albania hosts many international competitions. We hope to start our partnership together and continue it successfully.”
Astrit Hasani also expressed his pleasure at being in Baku. He emphasized the importance of expanding relations between Azerbaijan and Albania, as well as the activities of the European Olympic Academy in weightlifting. Hasani also mentioned that Firdovsi Umudov, Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation, has been nominated as an advisor to the International Weightlifting Federation. Additionally, he noted that Sabina Rzayeva has been nominated as a member of the Gender Equality Commission of the international organization.
Leonard Lulay spoke about the relationship with the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, noting that training sessions have been conducted among representatives over the past four years. He said this partnership will play a significant role in the development of sports and the expansion of mutual cooperation.
Chingiz Huseynzade noted that gymnastics is also developing in Azerbaijan. He mentioned that the group routine team in gymnastics placed fifth at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics last year: “I believe that, along with weightlifting, our cooperation in gymnastics will also expand.”
Later, the NOC Vice-President emphasized the importance of discussing the issues to be included in the memorandum.
